The owners of this San Rafael residence asked Kappe+Du to provide a new large family room, new bedrooms and a new office for an existing hillside home for a family of four.  Their backyard slopes downhill steeply and they have an intimate view of trees to the north.  We created a 3-D model as part of our design study. Here we feature several views of this model.  Construction is expected to begin in the Spring of 2009.

 
 
We designed the family room to cantilever out toward the tree view to emphasize the "tree house" aspect of the new glass enclosed room.  We also created a new wide stairway as an "experience" to lead down from the children's bedrooms to the family room, providing play spaces and features such as a wine cellar along the way.
