*A Peaceful Haven with Graceful Lines* Jiane Du as Project Designer with Marquis Associates developed the design for this $2.5 million, 15,000 square foot public library with soaring and curved lines for an ethnically and age diverse neighborhood in Oakland, California.
*Key Project Considerations*

	+	The design process needed to closely involve the community and various city agencies

	+	It was important that the library quietly integrate with its residential neighborhood

*Project Successes Achieved Through Design*

	+	Extensive trellises soften the exterior, helping to blend the building's façade and massing into the neighborhood's leafy, quiet residential character

	+	There are carefully planned community meeting spaces, as well as audiovisual and computer labs

	+	Effective, custom-designed lighting graces the book stacks

	+	Paid for by public art grant funds, we collaborated with a local artist on light-softening mottled glass used in the dramatic bow window and other windows at the south end of the library
